Hi, I’m Ken.
I am patient and thoughtful, eager to jump in and help solve design challenges of all types.
After gaining my Bachelors in Fine Art from University of Texas at Austin, I worked in Boston, MA for 5 years. As a full-time designer at marketing agencies I learned valuable skills. Clients included an outerwear company, consumer banking, art galleries, and the worlds second largest manufacturer of zippers!
Moving back to Austin, which was booming with software and tech startups, I started freelance work as a part-time embedded designer with CompassLearning. As managers split off to other jobs at other companies they asked me to join them. This happened repeatedly, and allowed me to have consistent work and learn from many different companies with different products and corporate cultures.
My freelance status also allowed me to have tangents in my career, such as my work with product packaging for Jenn David Design, or my experience developing systems to manufacture custom cabinetry for A.R. Lucas Construction.
It’s a varied yet consistent career arc. The key to my success has been strong relationships with managers who have brought me along as they change jobs. They will tell you that I am easy to manage, adaptable, and eager to learn.
Moving forward I am looking to exit from my freelance obligations and take on a full-time role. It’s a big change, and I’m looking at established companies with products or services that relate to my prior experience. I’ve been specifically targeting stable organizations where I can stay long term. I’m proud of my broad experience, but I understand that I will need to focus on my role and learn new skills to become an indispensable resource for the company I work for.
“As a freelance designer, Ken’s dedication and talent helps our marketing team deliver quality work while juggling an increasingly large workload. Whether designing an ad due tomorrow or a complex, multi-step campaign or packaging concept, his design solutions are on target, on time, and perfectly capture our brand and the objectives presented. At every turn, Ken consistently exceeds expectations!”
