Packaging Work
Presentation meets protection
In my 20+ years of graphic design work I’ve had many opportunities to work with product designers on packaging projects. I’ve teamed up with a former co-worker, Jenn David, to assist her on consumer packaged goods projects. I’ve helped Lifesize with packaging systems for their conference room camera systems. And I designed packaging for CompassLearning software. All of these projects offer an experience to the end user that highlights the product, while also providing protection throughout the distribution process.

Packaged Goods
Jenn David Design specializes in specialty foods packaging design. On these projects, Jenn had a concept of what she wanted the packaging to look like. I took her rough concepts and refined them into finished designs, including versioning to different flavors and sizes of packages. Additionally, there are strict guidelines for compliance on food packaging that we needed to adhere to. It was a fun project and I am happy with the outcome.

Small Electronics Packaging
Working with the Lifesize product marketing team gave me an opportunity to work on packaging their high end conference room camera systems. Packaging systems were designed for protecting the electronics and lenses through transport from Asian manufacturing to a global market. My work revolved around creating stylized illustrations of the products that would print well on absorbant cardboard boxes. Additionally, I created the associated documentation, including Quick Start Guides and regulatory inserts that were custom fitted to the packaging.

Experiential Packaging
This is an old project, but I like it for a couple reasons: 1) It provides an experience for the user, reinforcing the high end nature of the product, and 2) It was technically challenging and I like challenges and detail oriented work. The box was concepted with a specialty vendor in mind who we had used before for a very custom marketing campaign. It needed to hold 6 software DVDs, and product documentation (letter sized). This enterprise software was expensive and we wanted it to feel like a quality product.
