Serious work. Some fun.

Not every assignment calls for the same approach. I've designed everything from lengthy scientific publications to playful invitations for conference social events. Some projects demand careful organization of dense technical content, while others offer a chance to have fun with illustration, typography, and a theme.

Making sense of it all

For the International Dioxin Symposium in San Antonio, I developed the event's visual identity and designed an approximately 80-page conference program. Bringing together technical abstracts, schedules, and event information required careful organization and a consistent visual system to help attendees navigate several days of presentations and activities.

Big ideas. Big deadlines.

For roughly 15 years, I've designed research posters for the Society of Toxicology Annual Conference, often producing 10 to 20 posters in a short window. Working with researchers, I turn dense scientific content, charts, and tables into organized, readable presentations without sacrificing technical accuracy.

Science for everyone

For the Pantex Plant near Amarillo, Texas, I designed an approximately 30-page public information booklet explaining environmental cleanup and restoration efforts. The challenge was organizing technical information, maps, diagrams, and photography into a publication that was both accurate and approachable for a general audience.

Beyond the lab

I've developed trade show graphics and supporting materials for ToxStrategies and the BlueRidge Life Sciences family of companies, including large-format backdrops, banners, brochures, and tabletop displays. The goal is to bring multiple brands and services together into a cohesive presence that communicates clearly in a busy conference environment.

Curiosity comes standard

Working with scientists means learning enough about their subjects to ask useful questions and find the right visual approach. Whether it's a technical publication, research poster, or conference exhibit, I enjoy the challenge of making complicated information easier to understand. And after all these years, I'm still learning something new with nearly every assignment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently
Asked Questions

What kinds of projects do you take on?

Branding, websites, campaigns, presentations, publications, events, information design and plenty of things that don’t fit neatly into a category.

https://framer.link/isaacdsign

What if I’m not exactly sure what I need?

That’s pretty common. We can start with the problem, the audience and what you’re trying to accomplish, then figure out the right thing to make.

https://framer.link/isaacdsign

Can you work with our existing brand?

Absolutely. Not every project needs a rebrand. I’m just as comfortable working inside an established system as I am helping build one from scratch.

https://framer.link/isaacdsign

Can you work with our internal team?

Yes. A lot of my work has been done alongside marketing teams, writers, developers, subject-matter experts and other designers.

https://framer.link/isaacdsign

Do you take ongoing or contract work?

Yes. That can mean a recurring stream of projects, embedded support for a team, or simply being someone you can call when things get busy.

https://framer.link/isaacdsign

Do you build the websites you design?

For the right projects, yes. I currently build in Framer and Squarespace, and can also collaborate with developers when a site needs something more custom.

How much does a project cost?

It depends on the scope. Some projects are straightforward; others need more discovery, content, production or collaboration. Once I understand what you’re trying to do, I can recommend an approach and provide an estimate.

How long does a project take?

That varies too. A focused project might take a couple of weeks, while a larger brand or website can take several months. We’ll establish timing before the work begins.

Do you only work with clients in Austin?

No. I’m based in Austin, but I work with people wherever the project happens to be.

https://framer.link/isaacdsign

What if my project doesn’t fit one of these categories?

Good. Some of the most interesting ones don’t. Bring me the problem and we’ll figure out what it needs.
